Dear Parents,
Below are a few reminders regarding students’ health and well being. Please follow these guidelines to promote wellness among all of the students. We appreciate when parents notify us when their child has an illness, injury or head lice so that we can follow up as needed.
Illness: If your child is sick, please do not send them to school. The following guidelines may be helpful to determine if your child should stay home. Children should not be sent to school if they have a temperature over 100 degrees, or if they have diarrhea or vomiting within 18 hours before school. If they have a rash that may be contagious, or if they have been diagnosed with a bacterial illness (such as pink eye or strep throat) they must have been on antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school. They need rest to get better. If your child has a mild illness such as a head cold, they can attend school, but profuse runny noses and severe persistent coughs need to stay home. If a child needs to take prescription medicine at school, an adult must bring the
medicine to school with a signed form from the doctor and parent.
Proper dress: With winter upon us, children need to dress warmly each day for school with a hat, coat snow pants, mittens and boots. Many students have been coming to the health office to borrow clothing, shoes and boots. Please help students remember their outdoor clothes and shoes each day.
Hand washing: REMEMBER: Hand washing (using warm water and soap for at least one minute) is the single most important thing that can be done to prevent the spread of germs and disease!
Rest: Some students come to school very tired. Children need plenty of rest (8- 10 hours each night) even though they may not think so! When sleeping, our bodies have the opportunity to heal, grow and prepare for the next day.
Breakfast: It is very important that your child start his/her day off with a nutritious breakfast. If circumstances so not permit eating at home in the morning, remember that breakfast is available at school. Research has proven that children are more successful learners when they have had a healthy breakfast.
Thank you for keeping us informed and for helping to keep all our students healthy this winter.
Sincerely,
Wendy Reeves, RN
